Working with Homeowners and Tenants

When I work with individuals, I now think of my role less as an auditor and more as a counselor. The people I best help are ones looking for answers to problems like these:

  • I am afraid of my house. I think/know it is making me sick.
  • I want to do as much as possible of the repair and improvement work using my own hands.
  • I want to make my house as efficient as I can afford.
  • I want to know really how my house works and how I can make it work better.
  • I need help deciding what must be done now and what can wait.
  • How do I know that the work I invest in has made my home better?

If you think you have house problems and are prone to worry, working with me can be an overwhelming experience. My best advice for you is to call me only if you have the some funds to at least start making some of the recommended repairs and improvements right away. Unless you act, the information I give you will just make you worry more.

Working with severe asthma and other hyper-sensitized people is particularly challenging when there is not enough money to pay for needed repairs. Solving these problems can be complicated and require trial and error repairs.

Some of my clients need a lot of technical phone and/or email support after the billed work is done. I will let you know the point when I have to start charging you providing this support.

There are times when my work gets tied to blame and legal issues. I much prefer compromise to litigation. I can support you with expert witness services and resources if needed but my opinion is that this ends up costing all parties more. My billable rates are much higher for legal support services.
