If you ever wanted to learn more about big building air barriers…

This is your chance. I will be leading a full day, big building air barrier class at Southface in Atlanta for their Lecture series on May 30, 2013.

I have done a number of 1-3 hour classes over the past couple of years and there just has not been enough time in these shorter sessions to cover all the issues and topics–and there are a lot of them.  Here is the class blurb I wrote for Southface.

The same principals of residential air barriers apply to whole building air barriers in big buildings. It just that that the design and construction elements are increasingly challenging as the buildings get bigger and the geometry and materials get more complicated. This will be an interactive class and the class topics are:

  • Building science ground rules
  • Air barrier materials
  • Code and best practice
  • Design and specifications
  • Construction and quality control
  • Commissioning with air leakage testing and thermography.

As we go through the topics we are going to find a lot of holes in the knowledge base and try to fill some or more of them. Somewhere in the middle of the class day we will take a class break and do air leakage diagnostics. A more entertaining way to say this might be: We will turn on some door fans, smoke some cracks and feel the flow (of air leakage that is).”

The class cost is only $150 and you can register at http://www.southface.org/learning-center/trainings/lecture-series
