The 2012 IECC code has new design documentation and air leakage testing requirements. The residential requirements spill over into requiring whole house mechanical ventilation. Commercial buildings can comply with testing and non-testing pathways. Multifamily housing projects have the most compliance options and complications.
As of October 2013, IL, MD, RI and WA have adopted the 2012 IECC with and without state amendments. More states are in the adoption process such as CA.
Owners, developers, designers and builders need to know what these new air leakage requirements demand to insure that their projects comply and will pass air leakage tests when required or when this path is chosen. This need to know increases as code officials ramp up enforcement in the adoption states. If you have questions or concerns about a new project that is impacted by the IECC 2012 air leakage requirements, give me a call or email to find out what your compliance options are.
